so over on mint's forum, he posed the question of what were our x's of the year, whether that's album, movie, song, game, recipe, etc etc.
i put together a quick list over there of a few things (i, uh, didn't do Too Much this year unfortunately), but i wanna expound on some stuff over here, i guess! :O
so, without further ado,
SILAS'S TOP VIDDY GAMES OF 2025
- Fledgling Manor (ok this one's kind of cheating bc it came out late last year but i played it THIS year so i'm counting it!!! fantastic vampire reality show VN, adored the characters, the story, the art, the writing -- EVERYTHING!)
- Unfair Flips (flip a coin to hit 10 heads in a row. that's it, that's the game. limited stat increases, relies almost solely on luck. has a few different endings. loved this. i want the eggbug ending!!)
- Hello Kitty: Island Adventure (put 40 hours into it (a lot for me), so i reckon it goes on here!! really cute animal crossing... not quite clone but in the same vein of? not Really a rip off but. y'know. played a lot with my ldr partner).
SILAS'S top video games that came out this year but i haven't played yet of 2025:
- HORSES (yes, the game that's been banned from steam and humble, bc they're fucking cowards. i intend to play this sooner rather than later.)
- DELTARUNE (played the original demo, haven't touched it since... gotta pick it up)
- oneway.exe: Module 1.0 (a friend worked on this game! excited to play it one day)
- Wildwood Down (point and click adventure game with a protag who has Down syndrome! looks really cute)
- FEED MY MECH (mech horror game? sign me up!)
silas's top albums of 2025 (no order)
- CARDIAC CONTREPOINT by FLAVOR FOLEY ("Butcher's Vanity" sold me on this vocaloid using trio immediately. strong debut)
- Only Dust Remains by Backxwash (i liked her prev things i'd listened to, so of course i checked out her newest album! which i Also Liked!!)
- A City Drowned in God's Black Tears by INFINITY KNIVES & Brian Ennals (FANTASTIC blend of genres, noisy, cathartic!)
- The Scholars by Car Seat Headrest (my first cshr album, somehow! really liked this one, esp "Gethesmane")
- Yellow Paint by MattstaGraham (originally found them via a song called "Got The Autism". LOVED this, "Caffeine" is ENTIRELY too relatable... and "Good Enough" hurt, even if not applicable to me personally)
- LETHAL by Rico Nasty (was rec'd this by someone on said forum and it BANGED SEVERELY holy wow. wasn't sure what to expect going into it but it was REAL good)
- GOODNIGHT HYPNOPOMP by STOMACH BOOK (full disclosure is that i didn't like this one as much as her previous album, but it's not BAD by any means, not at all!!)
- Anyway by Anamanaguchi (got to see them live this year with gf!!! LOVED this album, i understand it's a departure from their chiptune roots but i really enjoyed it!)
- The Sound a Body Makes When It's Still by Hot Mulligan (surprisingly poignant despite some of, or, most of, the song titles. fun fact: this band does AEW wrestler Kyle Fletcher's entrance theme!)
- Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan by The Mountain Goats (heartwrenching album DESPITE the presence of lmm lmao)
- CHAMPION by Can of Bliss (yes, the album that generated controversy in the furry community bc there's GASP! a FAT GUY on the cover! fucking banger of an album
silas's top fave songs of 2025 (no order)
- "No Dreadnought Dies Alone" by The Reverent Marigold (kind of a departure from her normal stuff but LOVED this)
- "BUTCHER VANITY" by FLAVOR FOLEY (banger song that technically came out last year as a single but the album came out this year so i'm counting it! it's my list!)
- "Caffeine" by MattstaGraham (relatable song. very relatable honestly.)
- "The Flood" by Ben Caplan (LOVED this song a LOT but the album it was from was....... disappointing unfortunately)
- "Spoken For" by FLAVOR FOLEY (good ass song, another banger from Flavor Foley)
- "Come for us" by Anamanaguchi (another pump me tf up song and my fave off the new album)
- "Do No Harm (Atrial Mix)" by Marcy Nabors, Jamie Paige, and Penny Parker (done in the style of Utada Hikaru's "Simple and Clean", this song was the theme for a Kingdom Hearts fandub on youtube. and it SLAPS!)
- "ALLORNOTHING" by Can of Bliss (late contender but holy shit this song's been on REPEAT for me!)
THE ONLY book silas read in 2025 that also came out in 2025
- Vampirocene by merritt k (LOVEDDDD this very modern, very Online take on vampires. also fun fact, merritt k was also a writer for Fledgling Manor above!)
THE ONLY MOVIE SILAS SAW IN 2025 THAT ALSO CAME OUT IN 2025
- Sinners (saw this in theater, drunk. my fucking jaw DROPPED at That One Scene. masterpiece of a movie)
